Effects of Scrophulariae Radix on Antioxidantion in Rat´s liver

Abstract

|
Scrophulariae Radix extract(SRE) was tested for the effects of free radical generating enzyme and lipid peroxidation in rat´s liver. In vitro, levels of lipid peroxide were proportionally decreased to concentration of SRE. Also, enzyme activity of xanthine oxidase was decreased. The ratio of type conversion of xanthine oxidase was lowered, too. However, there was not special changes on enzyme activities of aldehyde oxidase. And, hydroxyl radical was proportionally decreased to concentration of SRE.
These results suggest that SRE decreasees lipid peroxidation through decreasing of xanthine oxidase and hydroxyl radical.
